Bamboo Laminate Flooring Installation Guide

Bamboo laminate is a new option in North America but has been widely used in the East for a long time. There are many benefits to choosing this type of flooring for your renovation project, which is why it is now competing with some of the more common choices like vinyl or hardwood.

Benefits of Bamboo

Marble and stone floors are certainly the most durable options available, but they have a cold feel to them and are costly. Of the wood options, bamboo laminate flooring is a top competitor in durability and is certainly better than most other hardwood options. It is very resilient and can stand up against high traffic and low maintenance.

It can also easily be refinished if necessary to look like new again. It is also easily adaptable to different climates and doesn't require a lot of preparation beforehand to put in. It can also easily be cut and shaped to fit into any space by using basic hand tools, eliminating the need for complicated saws.

Finally, because bamboo is a renewable resource and can grow to maturity quickly, unlike other hardwood options, it is now grown in the US and carried in every major flooring supply store. It is easy to find, install, modify, it is durable and resilient and maintains a shiny beautiful appearance. Its benefits make it a top choice in flooring.

Installing Bamboo Floors

Bamboo flooring installation is also not very difficult, so that you can take on the project yourself and avoid expensive contracting fees. For proper installation, follow these tips.

1. Prepare your space by removing all baseboards, moldings and doors.

2. Check your floorboards to ensure they are all secure. Nail in any loose ones and level out the area with leveling compound if necessary.

3. You will first need to put underlay down. It is available in 36" or 42" wide rolls. You will unroll it and place it side by side, being sure not to overlap, then duct tape the edges and seams. If your floor is concrete, first place down a plastic sheet since it will block moisture and vapor.

4. Your bamboo laminate floating floors may be too high for your doors to fit over, so measure your doorframes and make necessary adjustments.

5. Measure your room to determine how many planks will fit. The two end pieces should be the same width.

6. Start lining your floorboards from the wall outward, leaving 1/4" gap between the wood and the wall for any variations in the structure in weather changes.

7. The boards will fit together in a tongue in groove fashion, and then you will press down to click them into place. You may need to tap lightly with a hammer to connect them.

8. Once the entire floor is in, you can replace the baseboards and molding, but be sure not to nail them into the bamboo laminate flooring.

If you follow these steps, your bamboo laminate will be perfect and you can start taking advantage of all the benefits of bamboo.
